 > Lifting – lifting straps
Discussion> Talk with your colleagues about it!
  • Before I start lifting, I check the lifting straps for defects.

Introductie

In this toolbox meeting we will be discussing the use of lifting straps.

Questions that need to be answered before you start lifting:

  • Do you know what needs to be lifted?
  • Do you know the weight of the load?
  • Do you know the measurements of the load?
  • Is the required lifting equipment in good condition and available?
Risks > What can happen?
  • The load can fall from the crane.
  • It is difficult to keep the load under control resulting in:
    • risk of entrapment
    • colliding with objects such as scaffolds.
Control measures > What must you do?

Directions before use:

  • Read the manual and terms of use.
  • Check the label for the working load limit (safe workload).
  • Check the lifting strap for:

  1. Pollution
  2. Discolouring
  3. Damages or wear
  4. Cuts in or damage to the surface
  5. Holes
  6. Loose stitches

Pay attention to the following:

  • Do not overload the straps

  • Prevent twists
  • Knots in the straps are forbidden
  • Avoid coming into contact with loads containing sharp edges
  • Do not drag a load over the ground

Destroy rejected lifting straps.

There are single-use lifting straps. These are usually white and/or carry the name of the supplier. Factor 5 indicates single-use. Never use single-use lifting straps for other loads!
